ONELESS / COLOR

Random Color Generator

Sometimes a design needs a starting point you would not have chosen yourself. Random Color Generator gives you one new color or a small independent set. Generate again, return to the previous result when something was worth keeping, and copy only what you want to use.

Open Random Color Generator. JavaScript powers the workspace; the full guide is available below.

UNDERSTAND THE RESULT

Color, with a little context.

Independent RGB draws

Each red, green and blue byte is drawn independently from 0 to 255. This explores the sRGB cube; it is not a uniform distribution of perceived brightness or hue. Repeated colors remain possible.

Random is different from coordinated

A generated set is not constrained to a harmony rule. It may include clashing, similar, very light or very dark colors. Use Color Palette Generator or Color Wheel when you want related colors.

Undo stays in this session

The tool keeps up to twenty previous results while you remain on the page. Changing the count also creates a new result that can be undone. Reloading or leaving the tool clears that history.

HOW TO USE IT

From a starting point to a usable result.

  1. Choose one to eight colors. The default is a single fresh color.
  2. Select Generate colors for a new independent set. Undo last result restores the preceding colors and count.
  3. Click a swatch to copy one HEX code. Copy HEX exports the set; CSS exports numbered custom properties.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

Keep a useful surprise

Generate one color, then generate again. If the first result worked better, use Undo last result to restore it exactly. Copy its HEX and use it as a base in Color Palette Generator.

EVERYDAY USES

Make the next small decision easier.

Break a familiar starting habit

Try a color you would not normally choose, then adjust it in Color Picker. Random generation is an idea source, not a recommendation that the color fits every purpose.

Create placeholder swatches

Produce several different values for a mockup or experiment. Verify contrast before turning placeholder choices into readable interface elements.

LOCAL WORKSPACE

Your work stays in this browser.

The tool processes color values locally. It does not upload the input to a processing server or save it in browser storage. Leaving or reloading the page clears the working state. Copying places the selected result on your clipboard; sharing sends only the page address without your working values.

These tools describe sRGB colors. Browser decoding, color management and the display can affect what you see; they are not an ICC proofing workflow or a print-color guarantee. Read the site privacy policy for information about the surrounding website.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

A few useful details.

Are these curated palettes?

No. Every color is an independent random sRGB draw. No aesthetic harmony or accessibility result is promised.

Can a color appear twice?

Yes. Random generation permits repetition. Small samples can also include colors that look similar.

Can I repeat a result later?

Use Undo during the current page session or copy the values you want to retain. There is no saved seed, account history or persistent storage.

Is this cryptographic randomness?

No. The browser pseudorandom generator is sufficient for visual exploration. This tool does not generate security tokens or secrets.

Can I generate one color instead of a whole palette?

Yes. Select one swatch, or increase the count up to eight when you want several independent random choices.

How can I go back to a previous random result?

Use Undo within the current workspace. Copy any colors you want to keep before leaving or reloading, because the working history is not a saved collection.

Can I use the generated colors in CSS?

Copy a single value, the list, or CSS variables. Random generation does not assign accessible text/background roles, so check any pair you plan to use for text.
