Frequently asked questions
How does Text Compare work?
It compares two pasted texts in your browser, then shows matching, changed, added, and removed parts.
Should I use Line diff or Word diff?
Line diff is better for paragraphs and lists. Word diff is better when the sentence is similar but specific words changed.
What does Ignore blank lines do?
It skips empty lines while comparing so spacing-only gaps do not create extra differences.
Does this upload my text?
No. The comparison runs in your browser, so the pasted text does not need to be sent to a server for this tool to work.
Does Text Compare merge my two versions?
No. It shows their differences. Edit your source document separately after reviewing the changes; this tool does not choose a winning version or modify a file.
Can I compare text copied from Word or a PDF?
Yes, as plain text. Formatting, images and page layout are not compared. PDF copying can insert extra line breaks, so check the pasted text before interpreting a line-by-line difference.
Does a difference mean one version is incorrect?
No. A diff reports changes in the supplied text. It does not judge grammar, facts, intent or whether a revision is better.
