Paper strips labeled A, B and C ordered along a blue glass rail.

ONELESS / TEXT

Text Sorter

A copied list is easier to use when its order makes sense. Text Sorter rearranges complete lines without rewriting their contents. Choose the comparison that fits your list, inspect the result beside the original, and copy only when the order is right.

UNDERSTAND THE RESULT

A little clarity before the next click.

Natural or alphabetical

Natural ordering reads digit sequences inside text as numbers: item2 comes before item10. Alphabetical ordering compares the characters instead. English and Korean choose the language rules supplied by your browser.

Numbers need a clear format

Numeric mode accepts signed decimal numbers and scientific notation, such as −2 written with a standard minus sign, 1.5 or 2e3. Currency symbols and thousands separators are rejected. Blank numeric rows stay at the end in either direction. Values must be finite and no larger in magnitude than the maximum safe integer. Fractional values use JavaScript number precision.

Compare without rewriting

Ignore edge spaces changes only the comparison key. Original spaces, capitalization and duplicate lines stay in the output. Ties keep their original relative order. Line endings normalize to LF and a final line ending is preserved.

HOW TO USE IT

From your original to a useful copy.

  1. Paste one item per line, or select Sample. Choose Natural, Alphabetical, Numeric or Length.
  2. Choose ascending or descending order. For text ordering, select English or Korean and decide whether case should affect comparisons.
  3. Compare the original with Result. Copy result exports the sorted text; Clear removes the current source and Reset options restores the controls.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

File names that read naturally

With item10, item2 and item1 on separate lines, Natural ascending returns item1, item2, item10. Alphabetical ascending places item10 before item2. The names themselves stay unchanged.

Small tasks in a real working day.

Prepare a product or file list

Put labels with embedded numbers into a readable sequence before pasting them into a document.

Order spreadsheet values

Paste a single column of plain numbers. Use a spreadsheet for records with multiple linked columns; this tool moves whole text lines only.

Your words stay in this browser.

The tool processes pasted text locally. It does not upload your input to a processing server or save it in browser storage. Leaving or reloading clears the working state. Copy places the result on your clipboard; Share sends only the page address. Read the site privacy policy for the surrounding website.

A few useful details.

Does sorting remove duplicates?

No. Use Remove Duplicate Lines separately when you want to remove repeated entries. Keeping every line makes the change easier to review.

How is length measured?

Length counts Unicode code points in the comparison key. An emoji sequence can contain several code points, so this is not a visual character or byte count.

Why can browser ordering vary?

Text ordering uses the browser’s locale collation data. Different browser versions can vary for punctuation, accents or uncommon characters. This is not a database collation guarantee.

What are the limits?

Up to 500,000 source characters and 20,000 lines. Work is processed locally and is not saved after leaving the page.

Why does item10 come before item2 in alphabetical order?

Alphabetical mode compares characters. Choose Natural ordering to compare embedded digit sequences numerically, producing item2 before item10.

Can I sort prices such as $1,200 as numbers?

Numeric mode expects plain finite numeric values. Remove currency symbols and thousands separators first; use 1200 rather than $1,200. Review decimal separators before changing a localized list.

Does Ignore edge spaces remove spaces from the sorted output?

No. It changes the comparison key only. Original line contents are preserved, which lets you sort without silently rewriting the values.
